Solar Radio was ‘born’ when experienced presenter and soul music fan Tony Monson conceived a plan to build a phoenix from the combined ashes of London pirate stations Horizon and JFM. Solar was an acronym for ‘Sound Of London’s Alternative Radio’, and formulated a DJ roster and twenty-four-hour program rotation that would continue the crusade to bring soul and like music genres further onto the Greater London airwaves. Committed to showcasing the best of soul and allied genres, Solar Radio quickly established itself as a favorite institution in London’s music scene, attracting a loyal audience of listeners for whom it represented a rare blend of sounds and an unwavering commitment to showcasing underground and alternative music.
